I ran a 10-week AI internship for TalkMeUp, with the cohort building on Expired Solutions. At the close I sent out a feedback survey that collected no email addresses and left every question optional, including whether to sign it. 7 of 8 responded. He changed how we work, not just what we shipped. The clearest place was the weekly demo page. My early ones were walls of text — a task list, everything I'd touched, no takeaway. He pushed back hard: don't sound like a student walking through detail, lead with a verdict a reader can take in before reading a sentence, frame every item by its consequence and its next owner, and draw the hard parts instead of describing them.
It took a few rounds and it reset how I report. Same standard now applies to my evidence: a claim isn't a claim without the platform, the interpreter and the commit attached, and "BLOCKED" is an answer you write down rather than hide.
Lawrence is a thoughtful and highly engaged program manager. He sets high standards, gives specific and useful feedback, and encourages interns to understand and explain their own work.
He also taught us how to present weekly demos as clear and useful stories for the audience, rather than simply walking through detailed code and technical jargon. Working with him helped me improve my technical judgment, presentation skills, and ability to communicate complex work clearly.
Working with Lawrence gave me practical experience turning UX observations into reproducible engineering evidence. I learned how to test exact builds, distinguish verified results from blocked or inconclusive states, document privacy-safe limitations, and communicate findings across issues, pull requests, and product demos.
Lawrence was responsive to concrete feedback and gave the team meaningful ownership of real product problems.
